My Eureka Moment

For years I have been struggling to find the purpose of my PhD in Natural Language Processing while working in the field of Information Security. I had a "eureka" moment when I was asked to work on a SIEM project. I could not believe how much of my previous knowledge on syntactic and semantic analysis has come rushing back to me. It was almost like a plan. In fact, it was a plan.

I will keep you posted on what my journey will be. The project is still at its infant stage. If you are keen to know more, keep watching this space.

What's in a name?

Welcome to my blogsite. You might be wondering why I picked the name "Mulan"?
You probably already guessed that I am Chinese. I picked this name because I feel that I am a woman working in a male-dominated field - Information Security. Most female colleagues tend to choose their direction towards Risk and Compliance. I am on a journey to find out whether women can work in or even lead a hard-core security team. What does it take to be a female Information Security Professional?

Another of my life interest is "Artificial Intelligence". Ten years ago, I completed my PhD in AI. I left academia too hastily. Although my thesis was complete but I always felt that this was a half-missing chapter of my life. This blogsite will capture my journey of discovery: What role does Artificial Intelligence play in the world of Information Security? Can we use computers to outwit hackers?
